Genevieve Kureck, 87

Genevieve Kureck, (nee Gunderson), 87, of Pewaukee, began walking the streets of gold with Jesus on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, while surrounded by her loving family. She was born on July 31, 1926, in Chicago, to the late Bernard and Alice (nee Lindstrom) Gunderson. At a young age, Genevieve moved with her family to Independence, Mo. During World War II, she worked at an ammunition plant and later went on to work as a telephone operator for South Western Bell. Genevieve was united in marriage to Kenneth O. Kureck on Feb. 20, 1946, in Kansas City, Mo., and together they had two children. In 1956, they moved to Milwaukee where Genevieve worked as a crossing guard for 16 years. Shortly after her husband passed away in 1990, Genevieve moved to Pewaukee to be closer to her church.

Genevieve was an active member of Spring Creek Church (formerly Garfield Baptist) where she made many lifelong friendships. Her faith was very important to her and she enjoyed sharing that faith with everyone around her. It was her love of the Lord that led her to be the spiritual leader of her family. It also led to her greatest desire in life that her family would become followers of Jesus Christ.

Genevieve had an amazing strength that came from the Lord. She had an infectious spirit that everyone wanted to be around. She loved her independence, she loved to ride her bike and she loved a good bargain. Her life was full of color. She loved spending time with her family and friends every chance she could. She will be remembered by her grandchildren and greatgrandchildren for her silly songs she would sing them and for the silly stories she enjoyed telling them, especially the ones about her mischievous doll Lucinda. Genevieve is the beloved mother of Kenneth (Vernette) Kureck of Delafield and Susan (Irving) Marsh of West Bend; the proud grandmother of Aaron (Sara) Kureck, Benjamin (Ginger) Kureck, Kerri jo (Robert) Patten, Stefanie (Phil) Shierk, Sara (fiancÚ Paul Roemer) Myrhum, and Matthew (Nicole) Myrhum; the loving great-grandmother of Emma Grace, Isabelle, Liliana and Madelyn Kureck, Caleb, Philip, Eliana and Sophia Genevieve Kureck, Evan and Elise Patten, Whitney and Wilson Shierk, and Nathaniel Myrhum; and sister of Morgan (Annette) Gunderson. She is further survived by many other close friends and family.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ken, and her brother, Richard (Peggy) Gunderson.

A funeral service in remembrance of Genevieve will be held on Monday, Aug. 26 at noon at Spring Creek Church (N35 W2200 Capital Drive, Pewaukee) with the Revs. Chip Bernhard, Dan Forness and Tom Price officiating. Visitation will be at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon. Burial will be in Wisconsin Memorial Park in Brookfield.

Memorials to Angels Grace Hospice (W359N7430 Brown Street Oconomowoc, WI 53066) would be greatly appreciated by the family.
