Mary Jo Hochmuth, 76

Mary Jo Hochmuth (nee Kassuba), age 76, of West Bend passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at The Kathy Hospice surrounded by her family and is now at peace following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born Feb. 7, 1937, in Milwaukee to the late Walter and Olive (nee Salick) Kassuba and married Walter J. Hochmuth II on June 27, 1957, in North Lake. Walter preceded Mary in death on March 23, 2010.

Mary was raised in Shorewood and as a child enjoyed sailing and horseback riding at their summer home on Beaver Lake. Following their marriage, Mary and Walter settled in Milwaukee and raised their family. She was active at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish where her children attended school. Mary was a very loving and supportive mother in all of her children’s scouting, school and sporting activities.

In 1982, they moved to West Bend where Mary loved being a homemaker, working in her garden and caring for her many pets. She was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish where she regularly attended Mass and was active in bible study. Mary loved spending holidays with family and friends, especially the annual Fourth of July party.

Mary and Walter started a family business, MJM Screenprint and Embroidery Studio in Menomonee Falls, which is still owned and operated by the Hochmuth family.

Throughout her long battle with Alzheimer’s, Mary remained true to her loving personality and great demeanor. She was lovingly cared for at home by Walter. After his death she was able to continue staying at home with the help of her children Ann and John. The family would like to sincerely thank Dr. Peter Cornelius as well as the staff and volunteers at The Kathy Hospice where she spent her final five months. Mary’s contagious smile was the source of brightness for the staff and visitors throughout her stay.

Mary is survived by her five children: John of West Bend, Mike (Trisha) of Germantown, Ann (the late Mike) Contrino of Milwaukee, Tim (Michelle) of Boltonville and Tom (Stacy) of Colgate; her lifelong friend, Lois; two grandchildren, Nicole Contrino and Timmy Jay Hochmuth Jr. and great-granddaughter Malia Contrino. She is further survived by her 3 sisters- in-law: Christine Kassuba of Costa Mesa, Calif., Barbara Hochmuth of Cedar Crest, N.M., and Jo Anne Bruning of Crafton, Penn.; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Olive Kassuba, her husband Walter Hochmuth and her brother Walter Judd Kassuba.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at 1 p.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church in West Bend with burial following in Cedar Creek Cemetery.
