Donald H. Riley, 91|
Donald H. Riley, 91, of Hartford, passed away on Saturday, March 30,
2013, at the Cedar Lake Home Hospice in West Bend.
Donald was born Aug. 31, 1921, in Hartford to Abner and Ida (nee Trapp)
Riley. He was united in marriage to Elsie Schulz on May 2, 1942, at Sts.
Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Nenno, Wisconsin.
Don was a World War II veteran serving in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater
with the Battery C 210th Field Artillery Battalion 33rd Division. He was
a member of the Hartford V.F.W. Post 8834. Don attended South Side
School and Hartford High School (Class of 1940.) While still in high
school, he worked as a meat-cutter at a local market, and later enjoyed
a long career as a salesman with Armour Meat Company. He also taught
clock repair at MATC for many years. He was a member of the National
Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. Don was a member of the
Knights of Columbus at St. Kilian Parish. Donald enjoyed repairing
clocks and watches, flea markets, wood-working, music, and spending time
with family and friends. He especially looked forward to his daily
visits with his great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Sharon (Paul) Speiser of Hartford;
Sharon’s mother Elsie Riley of Hartford; grandchildren: Michelle Speiser
of Milwaukee, Paul Speiser of Princeton, N.J., Ryan (Karen) Speiser of
West Bend and Juliana (Charles) Geraghty of Menomonee Falls;
great-grandchildren: Adelynn Speiser, Sophia and Liam Geraghty; and his
sister Helen (Donald) Stoiber of Sun Prairie. He is further survived by
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Walter, Robert and
Gordon, and his sisters Gladys Wagner and Jean Hahn.
Memorial funeral services for Don will be held on Friday, April 5, 2013,
at 11 a.m. at St. Kilian Catholic Church with the Rev. David LaPlante
officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church
on Friday from 10-11 a.m.
Inurnment will be in St. Kilian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. Kilian School Endowment Fund or
to the Basilica of Holy Hill National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians
