Shirley Shortt, 76|
Shortt (née Connell), 76, of Hartford passed away Monday, April 8, 2013,
at the Aurora Medical Center in Grafton.
Shirley was born Sept. 24, 1936, in Hartford, to Elmer and Nellie
Connell (nee Linsdet.) She was united in marriage to Charles L. Shortt
on Sept. 12, 1955, in Tennessee.
Shirley worked for Broan Manufacturing for more than 30 years, a member
of St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church in Hartford and the American Legion
Auxiliary. She will be remembered for her excellent baking (Shirley’s
biscuits and gravy are impossible to match!), cooking, beautiful quilt
work and her flower garden.
Shirley is survived by her loving children Steven Shortt of Hartford and
Nellie “Lisa” (Dwain) Schmidt of Jackson; several cherished
grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and brothers Rodney (Mary) and
Leo Connell. Shirley is also survived by nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charles, son Michael,
daughter Lynn Kauper, and siblings Ruby Christenson, John Connell, Mabel
Neu, Mary Griesmer, Ray Connell, Joyce Neu, Genevieve Pieper-Peplinski
and Laverne Connell. Funeral services for Shirley will be on Saturday,
April 13, 2013, at noon at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, 670 E. Monroe,
Hartford, with the Rev. Anna Doherty officiating. Family will greet
relatives and friends on Saturday from 10 a.m.-noon at the church.
Interment at Union Cemetery, Colgate, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church Building
fund are appreciated.

Hartford EMTs and Fire Department, the Aurora Hartford and Grafton
Medical Staff for the great care given to Shirley, St. Aidan’s Episcopal
Church Congregation and the Rev. Anna Doherty for their amazing support,
