Breitenfield Sr., 88|
Verdell D. Breitenfield Sr., 88, was born on July 27, 1924, in Monroe County. He was the youngest child of Otto and Sigrid Breitenfield. He was preceded in death by both parents; his brother Walter; his sister Eleanor; as well as his wife Lillian in October of 1990. He is survived by his son Verdell D. Breitenfield Jr. of Clermont, Fla.; daughter, Christine Jones of West Bend; as well as seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He served in the Navy during World War II from 1943-’46 on the U.S.S. Wharton AP-7, where he worked in the boiler room. After the war, he attended trade school in Milwaukee to become a machinist. He worked for the city; at one time using an air hammer to bust up the roads, which was hard manual labor. The rest of his career was played out at Schlitz Brewery from 1947 to the time of retirement in 1981. He regularly worked third shift as a fork-lift operator, loading trucks and train cars. He also worked at Sterns Electric part time. He lived in Milwaukee until the age of 86, when he moved in with his daughter, Christine, who met a need at a crucial time in his life. He will be missed greatly. He will always be loved and never forgotten.
The family wants to thank the Virginia Highland Rehab Center for all the care and love given to Verdell. Also, a special thanks to Dr. Michael White who has cared for dad for many years.
