Dereatha ‘Dee’ R.
Dereatha “Dee” R. Miller of Port Washington passed away early Monday morning, Dec. 9, 2013, at Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon. She was 76 years old.
Dee was born July 27, 1937, in Harrisville, Pa., the daughter of Raymond and Verda Hockenberry Allison. For many years, Dee was a special education teacher for the Port Washington-Saukville School District. Dee was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Port Washington, as well as the Daughters of the American Revolution. She proudly served on the board of directors for the Niederkorn Library, where she also helped start Friends of the Library. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, reading and playing cards.
Dee is survived by her children, Alison Miller of Port Washington, Brenda (Jim) Peterson of Port Washington, Rick (Darcy) Miller of Cedarburg, Cindy Beyer of Port Washington and David (Wendy) Miller of Great Neck, N.Y. She is further survived by six grandchildren, Sara (fiancé Bill Boyle) Karcher, Owen Karcher (Chelsea O’Neil), Andrew Beyer, Rebecca Beyer, Richard Miller and Ethan Miller; sister, Wanda Lewis of Ohio; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Georgine (Jay) Doyle; and brother-in-law, Bill Lewis. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, at First Congregational UCC, 131 N. Webster St., Port Washington. The family will receive visitors at the church on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, WJ Niederkorn Library or the Volunteer Center of Ozaukee County.
