Wilma I. Vreeland, 97


Wilma I. Vreeland, nee Sabatke, of Jackson died on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, at her home at the age of 97 years. She was born on June 9, 1916, in Boyceville to the late Otto and Theresa (nee Vandenberg) Sabatke. Wilma grew up on the family farm, attending local schools and graduated from Boyceville High School.

Following her marriage to Robert Vreeland on Sept. 12, 1936, in Milwaukee, the couple settled in Milwaukee. Following Robert’s death on Sept. 12, 1973, Wilma moved to Jackson where she made her home up to the time of her passing.

She was an avid seamstress and enjoyed crocheting and quilting. Wilma also loved baking cookies for her grandchildren, and later, her great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Amarath and White Shrine.

Survivors include two children Jerold (Joan) Vreeland of Wauwatosa and Cheryl Jeske (special friend Al Fahrenkrug) of Jackson; seven grandchildren Lorie (Paul) Lorbiecki, Katherine (Chris) Savignac, Jerold Jr. “Jay,” Jason (Naomi), Paul Jeske Jr. (special friend Sandy Packer), Annette (Ron) Dorzok and James (Angie) Jeske; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great great- grandchildren; one sister Marjorie Ledlove of Tuscon, Ariz.; three sisters-in-law Doris Sabatke of Menomonie, Billie Sabatke of Oxford, Ala., and Lois Sabatke of Rhinelander; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Bonnie, one son-in-law, Paul Jeske Sr., and three brothers Lloyd, Edward and Orville Sabatke.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 20, at 1 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church with the Rev. Charles Turbin officiating. Burial following in Pinelawn Memorial Park, Milwaukee. Visitation will be at the church only on Friday from 10:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Memorials appreciated.
