Robert M. Kiekhaefer of Beaver Dam passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at the VA Hospital in Madison at the age of 66 years.
He was born July 27, 1947, in Beaver Dam the son of Merlin and Evelyn (nee Schindel) Kiekhaefer. He graduated from West Bend High School in 1965.
Bob served his country in the U.S. Army from 1967 until his honorable discharge in 1970. He was active in the Kewaskum Robert G. Romaine American Legion Post No. 384 as commander. In the 1990s, he joined the Horicon American Legion Post No. 157 and was very supportive of and active in both posts.
Bob worked at SAJAC in Beaver Dam for many years before finding his true calling as a bar keeper.
He owned and operated Prairie Tavern in Rolling Prairie where everyone knew him as “Mayor Bob.” He retired Aug. 31, 2013, after 20 years of operating the tavern.
He is survived by his father, Merlin; his stepdaughter, Denise Stadelmayer of Colorado; and his brothers and sisters, William (Penny) Kiekhaefer of Horicon, Terrance (Michelle) Kiekhaefer of West Bend, John Kiekhaefer of Horicon, Leo (Jan) Chilson of Kewaskum, Jeff (Jennifer) Kohman of Beaver Dam, Mary (John) Hughes of Beaver Dam and Linda (James) Stockhausen of West Bend. Also surviving are three grandchildren, one great-grandson, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-brother Charles Acker.
Visitation is Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, from noon-3 p.m. at the Berndt-Ledesma Funeral Home in Juneau. Funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Military graveside honors under the auspice of Horicon American Legion Post No. 157. Interment at Juneau City Cemetery. Memorials to Horicon American Legion Post No. 157 or the charity of your choice appreciated.
