Franklin J. Schmitt,
88, of Mayville, passed away on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Mayville Nursing
and Rehabilitation Center, Mayville.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, Dec. 30 at
5:30 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Mayville, with the Rev. Tom
Biersack presiding. A visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 30 from
2:30-5:30 p.m. at the church. Inurnment will take place in St. Mary
Church, Mayville. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Mayville
American Legion Post No. 69.
Franklin was born on Feb. 19, 1925, in Stetsonville to William and Susan (Vogt)
Schmitt. He was united in marriage to Dolores M. Boehlen on June 30, 1950,
in North Fond du Lac. He farmed in Taylor County and retired from Gehl
Company in West Bend.
Franklin was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Mayville. He was a
member of the Gehl Company 25-year Club. Franklin was a veteran of World
War II, serving in the Army. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards,
woodworking and playing horseshoes. But most of all he loved spending time
with his family.
Franklin is survived by: his wife of 63 years Dolores of Mayville; his
children — Michael (Marilyn) Schmitt of West Bend, LuAnn (Mark) Kirsch
of Thiensville, Carol Miller of West Bend, Laura Biertzer (special friend
Roger Rose) of West Bend and Mary (Scott) Branta of West Bend; two
brothers — William Schmitt of Ontario, Calif. and James (Marjorie)
Schmitt of Fort Atkinson; grandchildren — Matthew (Colleen) Schmitt,
Mark (Angela) Schmitt, Craig (Nicole) Miller, Christopher (Nicole) Miller,
Eric (Jennifer) Bayer, Kimberly (Ryan) Niedfeldt, Kelly (Donald) Reed,
Stephanie (Mark) Weske, Staff Sgt. Nicholas (Lori) Bayer, Crystal
(Michael) Hafemann and Timothy (special friend Sara Prichard) Branta; and
nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Norman; one sister,
Marie, one granddaughter, Corinne; and one son-in-law Clayton Miller.
