Edna I. Kempf, 101


Edna I. Kempf, nee Roehl, passed away peacefully on Jan. 30, 2013, in to the arms of the Lord to join her husband Edwin, at the age of 101 years. Edna was born March 23, 1911 in the town of Osceola, being the oldest child of the late Otto and Emma (nee Plautz) Roehl.

On June 20, 1931, she was united in marriage to Edwin H. Kempf in Dundee. They were blessed with 30 years together. Edwin predeceased Aug. 23, 1961.

For 31 years, she was employed at Pick Manufacturing and was a member of its 25 Year Club. Edna enjoyed following the Milwaukee Brewers, listening to polka music, and spending time with family and friends.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church for more than 60 years, being the oldest member of the congregation. She appreciated the visits and thoughtfulness of the pastors and members of the congregation.

Survivors include one daughter Karen Butzlaff of Harshaw; five grandchildren Randy Butzlaff (Mary Kleppin), Tim Butzlaff, Bruce (Jill) Butzlaff, Elaine Kempf and Laurie (Jason) DeMeyer; four great-grandchildren Benjamin (Candice) Butzlaff, Daniel Butzlaff, Jacob DeMeyer and Holly Kempf; two great-great-grandchildren Macy and Carson Butzlaff; one brother-in-law Henry Kempf; also many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son Carmen, son-in-law Lloyd Butzlaff, sister Leona (Frank) Backhaus, and brothers Vilas (Marion) Roehl and Herbert (Betty) Roehl.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, at 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Ledgeview Memorial Park. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church only from 10-10:45 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Horizon Hospice.
