David F. Krenz, 82, passed away on
Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013.
David was born on July 21, 1930, in Milwaukee to Adolph and Emma (nee
Hock) Krenz. At an early age, Adolf and Emma briefly took the family to
California before purchasing a farm in the town of Theresa where they
settled. David served in the United States Army during the Korean War
and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars. He
married Dawn Riffel on April 4, 1959, at Holy Angels Catholic Church.
David then became a dairy farmer and raised his own family on the farm.
After farming, David went on to work for John Deere as a security guard
for over 24 years before retiring in 1993.
David enjoyed hunting in his earlier years and was a proud member of the
NRA. He also enjoyed reading, playing sheepshead, taking vacations with
his family and visiting with his friends. David also took much pride in
spending time with his grandchildren.
David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dawn; daughters Natalie
(Jeffrey) Kaehler and Cherie (Rich Heppeard) Schellinger; and two
grandchildren Amanda and Brandin Schellinger. He is further survived by
his siblings Dean (Maren), Ralph, Richard and Kenny; in-laws Christ
(Kathy) Riffel, King (Mary), Lorelei (Kevin) Krogmann, Gerard “Mike”
Riffel and Sharon Riffel; and many other nieces, nephews, other
relatives, and dear friends.
David is preceded in death by his parents, parents- in-law, Joseph and
Evelyn Riffel; son-in-law, Mark Schellinger; sister Gloria Krenz;
sisters-in-law Joy Kilby and Faith Riffel; and brothers-in-law, John
Paul Riffel, Joe Riffel Jr. and Clarence Riffel.
A memorial service for David will be at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 14,
2013, at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel, 1420 W. Paradise Drive in West
Bend, with the Rev. Jim Hill presiding. Gathering will be from 3:30-6:15
p.m. at the funeral home on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Rev. Jim
Hill and the congregation at New Hope U.C.C. for all their love and
prayers. Thanks are also expressed to the Cedar Community staff for
their excellent care and friends and neighbors Gary and Cheri Hecker for
