Roman M. Laubenstein, 83, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013.
Roman was born on April 5, 1929, in Cedarburg to Erwin and Renata (nee Benicke) Laubenstein. He married LaVerne Kirchner on April 7, 1951, at St. Lucas Lutheran Church in Kewaskum. He retired after dedicating many years of service as a truck driver for Independent Metals. Roman is a former farmer who also bought and sold farm machinery for over 12 years. Roman was also a former employee of Marty Zivko Ballroom. He also worked briefly as a special deputy for the Washington County Sheriff’s Department. Roman finally returned to truck driving in later years up until his retirement.
Roman enjoyed collecting toy tractors, farm machines, cutting grass for Cedar Community, listening to polka music and playing cards.
Roman is survived by his wife LaVerne; children Karen (Robert) Neja of West Bend, Susan (Dennis) Gabor of West Bend, Debra (Harold) Stark of Watertown, Brian (Rene) of West Bend, and Brenda (Gregory) Neill of West Bend; grandchildren Bill (Bridget) Neja, Andrew Neja, Christopher Neja, Craig (Ann) Gabor, Cory (Megan) Gabor, Paul (Michelle) Gabor, Michael (Tiffany) Stark, Matthew Stark, Lucas (Lisa) Stark, Katelyn Stark, Jeffrey Neill, and Ross Neill; and great-grandchildren Gavin, Kolton, and Asher Stark, and Joshua and Jenna Gabor. He is further survived by his brother Howard (Shirley) Laubenstein, sisters Elmyra (David) Martin and Elvera Voss, sister- in-law Frieda Laubenstein, brothers-in-law Orin Kirchner, Wilton Kirchner and Elton (Beverly) Kirchner, other in-laws, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Roman is preceded in death by his parents Erwin and Renata Laubenstein; brothers Armin, Marvin and Elroy Laubenstein; sisters- in-law Bernice Laubenstein and Angie Laubenstein; and brother-in-law Charles Voss.
A funeral service for Roman will be at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church, 809 S. Sixth Ave. in West Bend on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. Visitation will be at the church from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. Entombment will follow at Washington County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church.
