Donald David Carra,
David Carra, 66, of Port Washington left this world to make his journey
home to paradise, on July 20, 2013.
Don was born at Hotel Dieu Hospital, in New Orleans on March 28, 1947.
Don enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1966 and was a proud member of the
101st Airborne Division. He then went on to become a talented,
hard-working master carpenter.
Don was a non-conforming free spirit who dared to be different and
blazed his own trails. Those who had the pleasure to meet Don were
immersed with his kindness, outrageous sense of humor, intelligence,
charm, wit and unmistakable, contagious laugh. He will be remembered for
his passion for God, country and freedom. The “way of Don” is best
expressed through his unconditional, indiscriminating, charitable heart.
Don was preceded in death by his loving mother, Shirley Munch; his
brother, Robert Carra; and s t e p f a t h e r, Raymond Munch. He is
survived by his devoted and adoring partner of 21 years, Sharon Stroh;
his stepchildren, Jericho (Brianna) Haust and Amara Haust; his twin
sister, Donna (John) Surniak; sister, Lisa (Chris) Tyre; and brother,
Ray “Skosh” Munch. Don will also be missed by other relatives, many,
many friends and Minka, too.
A memorial service for Don will be held on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, at 4
p.m., at Cornerstone Church, 1187 Falls Road, Grafton. All are invited
to remain after the service for refreshments, friendship and sharing
memories of Don. A celebration of Don’s life is being planned for the
near future. Details will be posted on a Facebook page for Don Carra’s
Celebration of Life.
