Diane Marie Burtard, 76

Diane Marie Burtard, nee Wolf, 76, entered into eternity on June 8, 2013, surrounded by her family at the Ivy Manor assisted living facility in Jackson. Diane succumbed to a recent diagnosis of lung cancer. She was born on May 28, 1937, in West Bend, to the late Tony and Dolores Wolf.

Diane graduated from West Bend High School in 1955 and married her sweetheart, Orville, on Aug. 13 of that year. Before starting a family, Diane worked at Gehl Co. in West Bend. They had three children: Debra Annette, John Anthony and Jeffrey Allen.

As her family was growing up, Diane enjoyed being a homemaker, mother and an associate with JCPenney’s until she pursued a career in real estate. Diane and Orv worked together for Wauwatosa Realty for several years before starting a real estate company of their own, Burtard Realty.

In 1981, Diane and Orv realized their dreams of owning a tavern (Function Junction of Theresa Station). They operated, owned, and provided entertainment and fun for all who entered in the doors for 21 years, despite Diane suffering a devastating stroke in October of 1994. Diane refused to let her inability to communicate verbally with others and hemiparesis to dampen her spirit until her death. Throughout her life, Diane enjoyed being with family and friends, playing cards, going to the casino, camping, reading, movies, and singing country songs.

Survivors include her husband Orville of 57 years, daughter Debra (Tom) Owens of St. Michael, Minn., son John (Jackie) Burtard of Kewaskum, son Jeffrey (Bobbie) Burtard of Kathleen, Fla., five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Diane is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Wayne (Mary survives) Wolf, Dennis (Shery) Wolf, James (Lynn survives) Wolf, and John adopted brother; one stillborn daughter, Doreen; and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 13, 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend. The family will greet relatives and friends for a period of visitation on Thursday from 4-6:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family are appreciated.
