Joen M. Gehr, 71

Joen M. Gehr (nee Praefke), 71, died unexpectedly in her home in Eagle River on Feb. 16, 2013.

She was born on March 13, 1941, in Port Washington. She spent her childhood and teenage years in Thiensville, and also enjoyed life in Allenton, Shawano, Land O’Lakes and Eagle River. She most recently was a waitress at Eagle Waters Resort in Eagle River. She was employed over the years as a waitress at the Hiawatha Supper Club and Archdales North-Merrill Inn. She was also the "Dump Matron" for the town of Land O’Lakes.

She was preceded in death by her ex-husband, Larry Gehr; her parents, Allen and Mildred Praefke of Land O’Lakes.

She is survived by her son, Rick (Oksana Vovka) Gehr of Land O’Lakes; brother, Allen "Skip" (Marie) Praefke of Neenah and Land O’Lakes; grandson, Craig (Marina) Gehr of Georgetown, Colo.; nephews, Ryan Praefke, Jay (Cindy) Praefke of Denver and Scott Praefke of New York City; her aunt, Dorothy Dacquisto of Mequon; many cousins, and friends.

She lived and cared for the love of her life: animals, especially dogs, horses and African grey parrots. She enjoyed singing, dancing, acting, photo coloring, writing and sharing a joke. She was most popular with her dining customers because of her humorous/sassy personality.

Joan was most noted for her involvement with a federal/state wolf study in Shawano and TV’s Charles Kuralt visiting her famous "decorative dump" in Land O’Lakes. A celebration of life will be held at the Eagle Waters Resort in Eagle River on Saturday, March 9, 2013.

Joen, "you come back, you hear?" from your favorite, much younger brother, may your soul rest in peace eternally with family, relatives and friends.
