Adolph R. Derge, 92|
Adolph R. Derge, 92, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 16, 2013,
at Harmony Assisted Living Home in Stevens Point under the care of
Ministry Hospice. His daughter was at his side.
Adolph was born on May 17, 1920, in the family farmhouse in the town of
Herman, Dodge County. Adolph attended the neighborhood one-room
elementary school. He recounted how he learned English as a second
language there at Cloverlawn School and how the teacher was strict about
not allowing any German to be spoken, even at recess. Adolph purchased
the family farm from his parents.
He married Anita A. Westphal on Aug. 27, 1947, at Peace Lutheran Church
in Hartford. Together they partnered in working the family dairy farm in
rural Hartford until they retired and moved to West Bend in 1982.
After retiring, Anita and he enjoyed traveling and playing cards with
friends. Adolph will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved
Adolph is survived by his daughter, Annette (Dale) Schuh. He is further
survived by his grandsons, Owen (Candace Jensen) Schuh of San Francisco
and Neil Schuh of Los Angeles; and many other nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends. Adolph is preceded in death by his parents,
Albert and Lena Derge; wife, Anita (nee Westphal); nine brothers:
Hervardt, Leander, Arnold, Alvin, Edward, Reinhardt, Berthold, Gerhard
and Walter, and two sisters: Blandina Wellhoefer and Adela Neunfeldt.
A funeral service for Adolph will take place on Friday, March 22, 2013,
at 1 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (777 S. Indiana Ave., West
Bend, WI 53095) with the Revs. Robert Hein and Richard Lauersdorf
presiding. Visitation will be at the church only on Friday, March 22
from 11 a.m. until the time of service at 1 p.m. Interment will follow
at Washington County Memorial Park.
