John C. ‘Jack’ Torbeck, 85
 

John C. "Jack" Torbeck, age 85, died peacefully Saturday, March 16, 2013, at Lasata Care Center, Cedarburg, where he had resided for the past year.

He was born on Nov. 18, 1927, in Milwaukee, son of Edward and Hedwig "Hattie" Sager Torbeck. After graduating from North Division High School, Jack entered the U.S. Army. He was a private first class, serving from February 1946 to May 1947 in Italy.

Upon returning to Milwaukee, Jack married the love of his life, Marion Rocco, also of Milwaukee. Together they made their house a home, raising three children.

For over 40 years, Jack was a meter reader for the Wisconsin Gas Co. (We Energies). He liked to keep busy after retirement in about 1989 by fixing small engines at his home. He really enjoyed fishing and would do so whenever he had the chance with family and friends. In the past few years, Jack and Marion lived in Ozaukee County, spending quite afew years at the Maple Crest Apartments in Port Washington.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Marion, of Lasata Crossings in Cedarburg; daughter, Patty (Dan) Gilbert of Grafton; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bernice (the late Jim) Garfield of Milwaukee and Donna Lidner of Greensburg, Pa.; deceased son Daniel’s dear friend, Denise Knoten of Oconomowoc; daughter-in-law, Kathy Torbeck of Eau Claire; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by two sons, Gregg Torbeck and Daniel Torbeck; sisters, Arlene, Betty and Joyce; and his brothers, Edward, Richard, Robert and James.

Jack’s memorial service will held at 6 p.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at St. Peter United Church of Christ, 166 W. Dekora St., Saukville.

Pastor Rebecca Johnston will officiate. Family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at the church.
