Donald A. Kirsch, 71

Donald A. Kirsch, 71, of Slinger, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, in the comfort of his home with his loving wife after a six year battle with leukemia.

Don was born April 18, 1942, to Clement and Edna (nee Schultz) Kirsch. He was united in marriage to Susan Wellhoefer on April 9, 1983, at Emmanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in the town of Herman, where he was a faithful member.

Don was a loving husband and father and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed driving anything with a motor and attending his children’s sporting events. Determined to always find a way, Don could often be found in his shop fixing anything and everything, including restoring his prized 1955 Ford F100 pickup truck (twice!) that he took to car shows throughout the summers as a member of Kirchhayn Cruisers Car Cub.

Don was always willing to lend a helping hand. And even more than that, tell his latest jokes to bring a good laugh. Don was around trucks his entire life having worked for Olson Lumber Company and Luedtke Eliminator Tractor Pullers, and eventually starting his own trucking company D & S Express with his wife Sue putting on approximately 4 million miles! He also owned his own tavern, Kirsch’s Cherry Bar, in Allenton from 1969-1977.

He had joined the National Guard and Army after high school and served active duty with the 32nd Red Arrow Division at Fort Lewis, Wash., during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of the American Legion Post 483 Allenton.

Donald is survived by his wife Susan of 30 years; children Connie Kirsch of Allenton, Candy Kirsch of West Bend, Jeff (Noelle) Kirsch of Sun Prairie, Amanda Kirsch of Evanston, Ill., Joe Kirsch of Chicago, and Krysten Kirsch of Mequon; granddaughter Stephanie Kirsch and stepgranddaughter Kailey Kirsch; sister Grace (Dick) Heesen; brothers and sisters-in-law Werner Wolf, Carolyn Kirsch, Terry (Shirley) Wellhoefer, Harvey (Wendy) Wellhoefer Jr., and Joyce Wellhoefer. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents Clement and Edna Kirsch, father and mother-in-law Harvey and Lois Wellhoefer Sr., sister Carol Wolf, brother Jim Kirsch Sr., and his sister-in-law Lisa Wellhoefer.

Funeral services for Don will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, (W630 Church Road and Highway 33) with the Rev. Walter Oelhafen officiating.
