Donald A. Kirsch,
A. Kirsch, 71, of Slinger, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, in the
comfort of his home with his loving wife after a six year battle with
Don was born April 18, 1942, to Clement and Edna (nee Schultz) Kirsch.
He was united in marriage to Susan Wellhoefer on April 9, 1983, at
Emmanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in the town of Herman, where he was a
Don was a loving husband and father and enjoyed spending time with
family and friends. He enjoyed driving anything with a motor and
attending his children’s sporting events. Determined to always find a
way, Don could often be found in his shop fixing anything and
everything, including restoring his prized 1955 Ford F100 pickup truck
(twice!) that he took to car shows throughout the summers as a member of
Kirchhayn Cruisers Car Cub.
Don was always willing to lend a helping hand. And even more than that,
tell his latest jokes to bring a good laugh. Don was around trucks his
entire life having worked for Olson Lumber Company and Luedtke
Eliminator Tractor Pullers, and eventually starting his own trucking
company D & S Express with his wife Sue putting on approximately 4
million miles! He also owned his own tavern, Kirsch’s Cherry Bar, in
Allenton from 1969-1977.
He had joined the National Guard and Army after high school and served
active duty with the 32nd Red Arrow Division at Fort Lewis, Wash.,
during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of the American Legion Post
Donald is survived by his wife Susan of 30 years; children Connie Kirsch
of Allenton, Candy Kirsch of West Bend, Jeff (Noelle) Kirsch of Sun
Prairie, Amanda Kirsch of Evanston, Ill., Joe Kirsch of Chicago, and
Krysten Kirsch of Mequon; granddaughter Stephanie Kirsch and
stepgranddaughter Kailey Kirsch; sister Grace (Dick) Heesen; brothers
and sisters-in-law Werner Wolf, Carolyn Kirsch, Terry (Shirley)
Wellhoefer, Harvey (Wendy) Wellhoefer Jr., and Joyce Wellhoefer. He is
further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents Clement and Edna Kirsch,
father and mother-in-law Harvey and Lois Wellhoefer Sr., sister Carol
Wolf, brother Jim Kirsch Sr., and his sister-in-law Lisa Wellhoefer.
Funeral services for Don will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 11
a.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, (W630 Church Road and Highway 33) with
the Rev. Walter Oelhafen officiating.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, May 3, 2013, from
4-8 p.m. at the Shimon Funeral Home and on Saturday at the church from
Interment at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Hartford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to The Milwaukee Blood Center of Southeast
Wisconsin, for the blood and platelets supplied during his illness.
