Benjamin H. Schmidt
 

Benjamin H. Schmidt passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2013.

Benjamin was born Oct. 20, 1921, to the late Ben and Elsie Schmidt (nee Hembel). He married Doris Jacklin June 27, 1945, at St. Peterís U.C.C. in Richfield.

Benjamin was a faithful and active member of New Hope U.C.C. in Jackson. He was born on the family farm and farmed the land full time until 1987 when he turned over operations to his son, Keith. Benjamin continued to perform chores on the farm even after retirement. He loved farming, his dairy cattle, hearts sheepshead, mowing his lawn and tending to the area around his beloved pond.

Benjamin is survived by his wife of 67 years, Doris; daughter Gail (Dan) Filzen, son Keith; son-in-law Rodney Kison; grandsons Ben and Nate (Michelle) Filzen; Jonathan (Kelly) Kison; great-grandson Bennett Filzen; and nieces, nephews and other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, three sisters, and one daughter, Charlotte Kison.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. at New Hope United Church of Christ with the Rev. James Hill officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church only on Tuesday from 4-6:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to New Hope United Church of Christ or to Cedar Community Foundation for the benefit of Cedar Community Home Health and Hospice.
