Marylyn Johnson Hembel, 89, formerly of Brandon, Milwaukee, West Bend and Fond du Lac County, passed away peacefully on Jan. 27, 2013, at her home in Sioux Falls, S.D.
She was born on July 5, 1923, in Fond du Lac County to the late Benjamin and Nellie (Dalrymple) Johnson, and married Alvin F. Hembel on June 30, 1947, in Washington County.
Marylyn was a 1941 graduate of Waupun High School and worked as an executive secretary in Waupun, West Bend and Milwaukee until retiring in 1985. She enjoyed taking photos of family and friends, collecting antiques, discovering new restaurants, singing, and playing the organ, guitar and piano. She especially loved organizing her high school class reunions. Most recently she resided with her daughter and family in Belleville, Ill., and Sioux Falls, S.D.
Marylyn will be deeply missed by her friends and survivors who include one daughter, Joy (Paul Thompson) Hembel of Sioux Falls; three grandchildren, Alexandra Thompson of Sioux Falls, Gregory Thompson of Champaign, Ill., and Victoria Thompson of New York, N.Y.; one brother, Robert K. Johnson of Fond du Lac; one sister-inlaw, Ellen Hembel of Slinger; and nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Preceding her in death was her husband in 1995.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013, at 3 p.m. at the Prairie Lakes UU Fellowship, located in Ripon at 315 Eureka St. In lieu of flowers or monetary memorials, friends and family are urged to bring photos and memories of Marylyn to share.
