Matthew W. Monroe, 29

Matthew William Monroe, born on Dec. 31, 1983, passed away peacefully at the age of 29 on Friday, May 24, 2013, as a result of his congenital heart disease. Beloved son of Mark (Bonnie) Monroe of Slinger and Sandy Monroe of Milwaukee; brother of Mark II of Slinger; half brother of Jena of Slinger and Michael of Milwaukee; and uncle of Carsen Mueller of Allenton.

Matt is further survived by his grandmother, Patricia Hertel; aunts, Martha Monroe and Sue (Greg) Derusha; uncles, Larry (Penny) Hertel and Tim (Roxanne) Hertel; and cousins, Rob (Kim) Monroe, Heather (Brett Hartman) Monroe, Kelly and Todd Wippert, Michael Marx, Megan and Kaitlin Monroe, Skylar Hartman, Aryanah Derusha, and Lafayete Wippert.

Matt was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Phillip Monroe, William Hertel, and David Conway; and by his grandmothers, Margaret Monroe and Bertha Conway.

Matt explored several types of employment opportunities. He loved animals and spent time working on a farm and at a dog kennel. He enjoyed holidays with the family and going to the movies with his dad. Matt enjoyed collecting Army memorabilia and was very proud of his knife collection. He loved football, but unfortunately for his family he supported the Chicago Bears!

A memorial service to celebrate Matt’s life will be held on Friday, May 31 at 6:45 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home (1315 W. Washington St. West Bend). The Rev. Matthew Short will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Friday from 5 p.m. until the time of service at 6:45 p.m. A light supper will follow at the funeral home.

Matt’s disabilities made his life here on earth a challenging and often frustrating one. Matt was able to donate organs and tissue to improve the health of others. He will live on in the lives of many, giving his own life more purpose. Our family is thankful for the good times we enjoyed with Matt, but also for the fact that he is now healthy and at peace in heaven.
