Othilda E. Gundrum, 96

Othilda E. Gundrum, nee Wenninger of West Bend was called by our Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, to join “Dad,” her beloved husband, and all the angels and saints in heaven at the age of 96 years. She was born on Nov. 16, 1916, in West Bend to the late John and Anna (nee Heindl) Wenninger.

On Aug. 1, 1936, she was united in marriage to Andrew Gundrum at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Hubertus.

While Andrew was employed outside of the home, Othilda kept up everything at home, which included gardening, yard work, sewing, cooking, canning, cleaning and everything in between. They had a loving and compatible marriage, until Andrew died tragically in a car accident on March 4, 1986.

Othilda managed to pick up the pieces and go on with her life. She found strength through prayer, faith, her church and her family. She was someone that we could always go to with our problems and concerns, always willing to listen, was never judgmental and, at the same time, not losing sight of her own values. She was a good wife and mother, a good Christian, and a good example for everyone who came in contact with her. The world will not be the same without her. The family is very grateful to our Lord, for giving us such a wonderful mother and father.

She was a charter member of St. Frances Cabrini Parish and the Christian Women’s Confraternity.

Survivors include five children: Arlene Ann Zima of Punta Gorda, Fla., Geraldine (Martin) Rulli of Franklin, Patricia (Michael) Williams of Port Orange, Fla., Andrew (Karen) of Sturgeon Bay and Ronald (Marilyn) of West Bend; 18 grandchildren: Ralph (Helen) Racette, Cynthia (Steve) Krantz, Brett Racette, Robert (Joan) Kearns Jr., Lynn (Scott) Christenson, Steven Kearns, Brian Kearns, Eric (Tricia) Kearns, Carolyn (Michael) Hovey, Jeffery (Nancy) Weisling, Richard (Jessica) Turnquist Jr., Christa Gundrum, Ronald (Nicole) Gundrum Jr., Amy (John) Mahr, Andrea (Chris) Cybell, Andrew (Terriann) Gundrum, Angela (Dan) Pascale and Pierce Bostwick; 40 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters: LeRoy Wenninger of Hubertus, Jerome Wenninger of Slinger, Ruth Kohlback of Hubertus, Jean (James) Konrath of Lake Summit and Joan (Walter) Breu of Hubertus; one sister- in-law Judy Wenninger of Wautoma; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sons-in-law, Richard Zima, Gary Weisling and Richard Turnquist; two grandchildren, Richard Kearns and Diana Kearns; and one sister, Bernice (Francis) Pfeiffer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with the Rev. Enrique Hernandez presiding. Burial will follow in Holy Angels Cemetery. The family will greet relatives and friends during a period of visitation at the church only on Monday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. The family has requested memorials to St. Frances Cabrini Parish.

Othilda’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Cindy, her granddaughter, for all the excellent, loving care she gave to her “Grammy.” Thank you also to the staff at Tri Manor for providing a comfortable, homey, safe and pleasant environment for our Mom during the last months of her life.
