Robert ‘Bob’ H.
“Bob” H. Blockel Sr. of Washington Avenue in Cedarburg, passed away at
his home while surrounded by his loving family early Saturday morning,
Nov. 2, 2013. He was 81 years old.
Bob was born in Chicago on Dec. 9, 1931, the son of Herman and Florence
Reuter Blockel. Bob attended local schools and graduated from St. George
High School in Evanston, Ill., with the class of 1949.
He earned his Bachelors Degree in business administration from Loyola
University in 1953 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Naval
Reserves during the 1950s. Bob was united in marriage with Janet Brooks
at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in Chicago on Oct. 6, 1956.
Bob worked in sales for EKCO Housewares Co.
The couple moved their young family to Waukesha in 1968 before moving to
Cedarburg in 1971. Janet preceded him in death in 1982. Later, the
family resided briefly in Ohio and Illinois before returning to
Cedarburg in 1993 when Bob retired. He was a member of St. Francis
Borgia Catholic Church. Bob was a proud lifelong Chicago Bears fan, as
well as a supporter of the Cubs, Bulls and Blackhawks. He enjoyed golf
and fishing at the cabin up north, but enjoyed working outside mowing
lawn or blowing snow just as much.
Bob liked to spend time in his workshop and made many projects for
friends and family members. He loved having his family around him and
enjoyed going to sporting events and activities to watch his
Bob is survived by his six children, Mary (Scott) O’Donnell of Brown
Deer, Cindy (Jeff) Nesser of Merton, Lori Blockel of Waukesha, Robin
(Jim) Haley of Port Washington, Robert Blockel Jr. of Newburg and
Stephan (Deanna LaBonte) of West Bend. He is further survived by 10
grandchildren, Brian, Bree, Ryan, Justin, Matthew, Maria, Chase, Derek,
Sean and Alyssa; six great-grandchildren, Owen, Wyatt, Lilli, Isabel,
Braedon and Cole; his brother, Donald (Dorothy) Blockel of Fort Meyers,
Fla.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in
death by his parents and his wife.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7,
at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church South, N44 W6005 Hamilton Road,
Father Tom Eichenberger will officiate. Bob will later be inurned beside
his wife in the parish cemetery. The family will receive visitors at the
church on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers. Eernisse Funeral Home &
Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements.
