Eric was born on May 6, 1982, in Milwaukee and grew up in Cedarburg. He graduated from Cedarburg High School in 2000. He continued his education at Cardinal Stritch University’s School of Nursing, earning an Associate Degree in nursing in December 2002. He became a registered nurse in the spring of 2003, prior to his 21st birthday. Eric began his nursing career in January 2003, at Columbia St. Mary’s Hospital in Milwaukee. After seven years of working in a medical surgical unit, he accepted a position at St. Mary’s Regional Burn Center. He touched the lives of patients and co-workers with his patience, humanity, and dedication to superior care. He was known to be particularly helpful to new nurses and more challenging patient cases. A former co-worker posted this online memory a few days ago: “Many years ago, when Eric was still a fairly new nurse and working on 8D at the then St. Mary's Hospital, Eric, another friend and I were eating dinner at an east side restaurant. A gentleman walked up to Eric and explained that he had surgery at St. Mary's and Eric was one of his nurses afterward. He wanted to express his gratitude to Eric for being such a wonderful nurse and stated how much Eric had helped his recovery. After the man walked away, Eric stated that he thought the man was a patient from maybe 8 months before. I have been a nurse for a long time and have been out with nurses many, many times and have never experienced anything quite like that. Eric’s ability to connect with people was quite remarkable.”

Eric is survived by his parents, Michael and Janet Schade; his grandmother, Nora Kamp; aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends. He will be greatly missed by his deeply saddened family, friends, and burn unit community. Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
