Ruth E. Prowatzke,
E. Prowatzke, of Washington Avenue in Cedarburg, formerly of West Allis,
passed away Monday afternoon, Oct. 7, 2013, at Lasata Nursing Home in
Cedarburg. She was 87 years old.
Ruth was born in Milwaukee on March 25, 1926, the daughter of George and
Hilda Priese Fluegel. She attended local schools and graduated from
Rufus King High School with the class of 1944. On Nov. 6, 1951, Ruth was
united in marriage with Carl Prowatzke at Gospel Lutheran Church in
Milwaukee. The couple settled in Milwaukee and raised their family. Ruth
had worked as a teacher aide for the Milwaukee Public School system. Her
husband preceded her in death in 1991 and in 2006, she moved to
Cedarburg to be closer to her daughter. Ruth was an active member of
Redeemer Lutheran Church in Cedarburg, where she had also belonged to
the L-4 group. She enjoyed reading, knitting, sewing as well as visiting
with and caring for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her two children, Mark (Suzanne) Prowatzke of Mill
Neck, N.Y., and Marlyn (Chuck) Gassert of Cedarburg; and six
grandchildren, Sara (Dan) Wenger, Adam Prowatzke, Elsa (Matthew) Gumm,
Heidi (Jacob) Curtis, Philip and Carl Gassert. Further survivors include
five great-grandchildren, Lea, Jonas, Anneliese, Maryke and Naosmi;
sisters-in-law, June Fluegel of Waukesha, Elaine Fluegel of Aurora,
Colo., and Florence Lipski of Littleton, Colo., nieces, nephews, other
relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl; and two brothers, Ralph
and Howard Fluegel.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Oct. 10, 2013, at
Eernisse Funeral Home, 1167 Washington Ave., Cedarburg. The Rev. Mark
Rohrback will preside. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at
Graceland Cemetery in Milwaukee. The family will receive visitors at the
funeral home in Cedarburg today from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
