Bernice M. Knop, 94

Bernice M. Knop of West Bend died on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at Riverway Place at the age of 94 years.

After her graduation, she began working at the former West Bend Aluminum Company. During World War II, she was responsible for inspecting 22mm shell casings for the U.S. Navy. She continued working until her retirement.

Throughout her life, she supported various charities, including the troops during World War II. Her brother received many care packages from home. She also enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, especially Hawaii, and Canada.

Bernice was an avid reader. She never missed an edition of The Daily News. Her friendly “yoo-hoo” greeted people from her porch while reading the paper.

Survivors include one brother Earl Knop of Leesburg, Fla.; one niece Susan (John) Zabinski of West Bend; one nephew Steven (Nancy) Knop of Coon Rapids, Minn.; and great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother John (Barbara) Knop and one sister-in-law Fay Knop.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home in West Bend with the Rev. David Kellerman officiating. Burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Thursday from 1-1:45 p.m.
