Jerome D. Dieterich, 80


Jerome “Jerry” D. Dieterich, 80, passed away peacefully after a long and courageous battle with ALS on Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013.He was born in Whitewater on June 2, 1933, to the late William and Leora (nee Krahn). He married his high school sweetheart, Elaine M. Dieterich (nee Ponath) on June 4, 1955, at Trinity Lutheran Church in West Bend. He began his career in insurance sales in Florida and, upon his return to Wisconsin, was promoted to state supervisor for Beneficial Life Insurance Company.

After retiring from a successful career in insurance, he loved to spend time with family and took great pride in helping them during any time of need. He enjoyed playing sheepshead and Aggravation, and watching football. Jerry will always be known for his love of Coca Cola, which he called “the nectar of the gods.”

He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Elaine; children, Debbie Moser, Diane Klein, Darlene (Tim) Mitchell, David (Jenny) Dieterich; grandchildren, Danielle, David Klein, A.J. (Katia) Mitchell, Jessica Vick; and sister-in-law, Millie Dieterich; and nephews, Terry Dieterich and Ron (Patti) Kuehl. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by siblings, William Jr., Kelly Brantley and Doris Strauss; and niece, Patricia Smallwood.

Per Jerry’s wishes, a private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the ALS Foundation (1275 K Street NW, Suite 250, Washington, D.C., 20005, or online at alsa.org). Jerry honorably donated his brain stem to ALS Research.
