George Gavin, 83, of West Bend, passed away and joined his wife on Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014.
He was born on March 15, 1931 in Rhinelander to the late Robert and Nettie (nee Marx) Gavin. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. While in the Army, George married Johanna Schmidt on May 7, 1953, in Nuremberg, Germany, and after his discharge from the Army they returned to Wisconsin. George was employed at Regal Ware in Kewaskum for many years, retiring in 1992. Johanna passed away on Aug. 8, 2007.
George is survived by five children, Maria Gavin of West Bend, Isabella (Carl) Ray of Fox Lake, Robert (Renee) Gavin of Sheboygan, Michael Gavin of West Bend and Debora (Armando) Manresa of West Bend; five grandchildren, Crystal (Tim) Furrenes, Shentel Manresa, Kayla Gavin, Armando Manresa and Andrea Rincon-Frias; great-grandchildren Amelia and “another on the way” Furrenes, Amalia, Azelea, Astreya and Angelita Rincon-Frias; two brothers, Francis (Joan) Gavin of Pueblo, Colorado, and Dale (Beverly) Gavin of Lakewood; a sister, Marie (Larry) Heinen of Cedar Grove; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Gavin of Sheboygan and Anita Gavin of West Bend; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Johanna; five brothers, Ogden (Leona) Gavin, Robert (Doris) Gavin, Delmer Gavin, Delbert (Gloria) Gavin and Edward Gavin; and two sisters, Cathy Gavin and Isabella (Harold Sr.) Fry.
A memorial service in remembrance of George will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 3 p.m. at the Myrhum-Patten Funeral Home, 1315 W. Washington St., West Bend. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.
