Elmer H. Yoeckel, 89, of Hartford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, at the Wellington Place, surrounded by his loving family.
Elmer was born on May 2, 1925, in Huilsburg, to Edward Yoeckel Sr. and Johanna (nee Troeller) Yoeckel.
He was united in marriage to Jeanette Christian on April 30, 1950, at St. Johnís Lutheran Church in Woodland. Elmer was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hartford with his wife Jeanette for more than 20 years.
Elmer is the fifth generation to operate the Yoeckel Farm that came to be before Wisconsin was a recognized state. Elmerís son Dale continues as the sixth generation on the Yoeckel farmstead.
Elmer was also a bartender at Liskoís in Huilsburg for many years; he belonged to the Farmers Union and was a chairman of Milk Marketing, District 6.
He will be remembered fondly of his fun-loving personality, always having a joke to tell, and his wit. He worked hard and played hard.
Elmer is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Jeanette Yoeckel; his loving son, Dale (Cindy) Yoeckel; cherished granddaughters, Becky (Jesse) Diels and Angie Yoeckel; cherished great-grandchildren, Trey and Jaedynce Diels; and two sisters- in-law, Elvira Beilke and Evelyn Christian. He is further survived by other dear relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Johanna Yoeckel Sr.; his daughter, Doris Diedrick; parents-in-law, Louis and Ephrosine Christian; siblings, Edward (Bernice) Yoeckel Jr. and Hilda (Alvin) Zastrow; and brothers-in-law, Milton and Delmar Christian.
Funeral services for Elmer will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2014, at the Shimon Funeral Home (824 Union St., Hartford, WI 53027) at 6:30 p.m. with the Rev. Marcia Carrier officiating. Family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday at the funeral home from 4-6:30 p.m.
Interment will take place in St. Johnís Lutheran Cemetery in Woodland.
