Robert J. Mlejnek Sr., “Bob,” 60, of Kewaskum, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014, from multiple myeloma at The Kathy Hospice. He was born on Feb. 9, 1954, in Milwaukee, to Otto and Lorraine G. (nee Sevrude) Mlejnek. Bob was raised in New Berlin and graduated from New Berlin High School in 1972.
He met Gail Vermaas in high school, and they married on Feb. 19, 1972, at Blessed Savior in New Berlin. Bob and Gail moved to West Bend in 1978 and then to Kewaskum in 1989.
Bob was the owner of Bob’s Auto Repair, Park Avenue Pub and The Waterin Hole. He retired from Bob’s Auto in 2004 and sold it to his daughter Laurie and son-inlaw Bill, Park Avenue was sold in 2008 and the Waterin Hole was sold just this year.
Bob coached and was president of West Bend Little League from the 1980s to the 1990s. He also was involved in the Police Communication Patrol. Bob was also a member of the New Berlin Fire Department from 1970 until the family moved to West Bend.
He enjoyed spending time with people while towing and bartending. Bob and Gail also liked to camp at Riverbend Resort in Watertown.
Bob is survived by his wife of 42 years, Gail; children Wanda (Dennis) Miller, Laurie (William) Rate, Robert J. Mlejnek Jr. and Garrett Mlejnek; grandchildren Zachery (friend Megan), Cody, Gregory, Tara, Elizabeth, Derrick, Kross, Kadyn and Keagn; step-grandson Christopher; special great-grandson Trevor; brothers-in-law Dwight Vermaas and Dwayne Vermaas; father-in-law Bob Pagel; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law June Pagel; and sister-in-law Hope (Edmund) Meinhardt.
A funeral service will be held at the Phillip Funeral Home Chapel (1420 W. Paradise Drive), West Bend on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, at 2 p.m. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
