D. Hilgenberg, of Hartford, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014. He was
born Jan. 2, 1929, in Hartford, the son of David and Hermina Hilgenberg.
At the age of 8, Harold was playing drums in the Hartford High School
band. Harold was employed at the First National Bank of Hartford right
after his 1947 graduation from Hartford High School. He retired at 60
years old in 1989.
Harold also enjoyed 42 years of drumming with the Hartford City Band and
the V.F.W. Drum and Bugle Corps, as well as many other bands. He also
had his own combo and his last group was Hartford’s own “Dixie Kats.”
Harold served two years in the U.S. Army’s 45th Division, with six
months in Hokkaido, Japan, and a year in Korea from 1951-52. On Oct. 6,
1956 he married Carol Ann Kletti. Together they raised their daughter
Barbara Ann and their son Thomas James. Harold is survived by his wife
Carol Hilgenberg, his daughter Barbara (John) Van Etta, his son Thomas
(Amy) Hilgenberg, his grandchildren Aimee, Johanna, Erin, Anne and
James, his great-granddaughter Kaitlyn, and his great-grandson Tyler. He
is also survived by nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law,
other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014, from 1-3 p.m. at
Divine Savior Lutheran Church, 3200 Highway K South, Hartford. The
funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. at the Church. The Rev. Douglas
Stowe will officiate.
Interment will be held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
