Walter O. Weidman, 87

Walter O. Weidman of Cedarburg passed away in his sleep Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Lawlis Hospice at the age of 87 from kidney failure and other complications.

Walter was born in Jackson on Oct. 30, 1926, the son of Louise (nee Berndt) and Walter J. Weidman, the fifth of six children.  Walter graduated from West Bend High School in 1944. He enlisted in the Army in 1945 and served for three years.  He then worked at Liberty Mutual until his retirement in 1991.

After retirement he volunteered at St. Mary’s Ozaukee and installed LifeLines at people’s homes until he was declared legally blind and thankfully stopped driving.  He also enjoyed going out to eat, watching “Jeopardy” and the Packers and completing his crossword puzzle in ink. Monthly trips to Potawatomi Casino and giving his great-granddaughter rides on his walker were also activities he enjoyed.

Walter is survived by his daughter, Margaret (Steve) Gloudeman; sons, Walter (Carol) Weidman and Ken Weidman; grandsons, Paul Gloudeman, Brian Gloudeman and Robert Weidman; great-granddaughter, Alyssa Gloudeman;  one sister, Marilyn Anderson;  cousin, Pearl Weidmann; special friends, Ruth Peters and Vicky Spencer; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth E. Weidman; friend, Dorothy Knitter; brothers,  Eugene Weidman and Henry Weidman; sisters, Gertrude Abel and Julia Lindenstruth; sisters-in-law, Wilmette Weidman, Ruth Weidman and Martha Weidman; brothers-in-law, Hank Abel, Bob Lindenstruth and Walter Anderson.

The family would like to thank Dr. Tom Shewczyk for his friendship and compassionate care for the past 25 years, and the staff at St. Mary’s Ozaukee and Lawlis Hospice for their compassionate care at his last illness. Thank you also to Pastor John Norquist for his visit and prayer service; it brought us and Daddy peace and comfort.
