Annabelle Lilly Nelson, 97

Annabelle Lilly Nelson (nee Schmidt), 97, was born to eternal life  Jan. 17, 2014.
Annabelle was preceded in death by Gilbert, her beloved husband of 74 years, and their daughter, Linda.

She is survived by daughters, Lani (Howard) Beuerman and Leila (Benjamin L.) Chambers; grandchildren, Eric Beuerman, Lisa (William) Campbell, Lori (Oscar) Aguirre, Benjamin G. Chambers and Elyse Chambers; great-grandchildren, Emma, Hava, Ruth and Esther Campbell and Oscar and Joshua Aguirre; and his sister-in-law, LaVerne Boers (Ray Beyer); nieces and nephews.

Annabelle attended Bay View High School where she graduated at age 16 from the stenographic course June 24, 1932, the first in her family to graduate from high school.  She attended Miss Brown’s School of Business and subsequently she had secretarial positions at Milcor Steel, Milwaukee Printers Roller Co. and Friedlander & Associates.

Annabelle worked tirelessly on the Nelson and Schmidt family genealogies. She received special recognition for service to the Milwaukee County Genealogical Society in 1989. For awhile, she did typing to convert text to Braille for the blind. Annabelle also crocheted Project Linus afghans for children in hospitals. Reading provided lifelong pleasure and she and Gilbert spent many happy hours dancing and challenging each other with their word prowess in Scrabble games.

Annabelle was active in her church, serving as Sunday School secretary and treasurer, as well as librarian and church archivist. She was a member of the church council, served on the Altar Guild and was secretary-treasurer of the American Lutheran Church Women.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, at  Grace Lutheran Church, 303 Green Bay Road, Thiensville.
