Josephine Kohl, 90

Josephine Kohl, 90, passed away on Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at Ivy Manor in Jackson. Josephine was born in BendorfMühlhofen, Germany, on Feb. 24, 1923, to Heinrich and Margareta Kohl. In 1952, she immigrated to West Bend, sponsored by her aunt and uncle, Maria and Henry Mueller. She was like a daughter to them and a sister to her cousin, Bill. Through the years, she was a devoted and loving “aunt” to Bill’s family.

Upon arriving in West Bend, Josephine worked at F.W. Woolworth and the West Bend Co. for a short time, before moving on to a longtime position at the First National Bank where she worked as a bookkeeper until 1976.

Josephine joined Holy Angels Parish upon arriving in West Bend, where she remained a member until her death. She was deeply devoted to her religious faith and shared it with others by teaching religious education at Holy Angels. In 1976, she moved to Chassell, Mich., where she was called to live out her faith as a housekeeper and church assistant to St. Ann’s Parish. In 1980, Josephine moved back to Wisconsin and worked for the city of West Bend as a bookkeeper until her retirement.

Josephine is survived by Bill’s family; wife Pearl Mueller; children Ann Marie (John) Craig and Mary (Jim) Boldt, all of West Bend; Katrin Mueller, Nolalu, Ontario; Janet (Steve) Gustman, Marinette; Rita (Michael) Nowotny, Greenville; Bruce (Jill) Mueller, Alexandria, Va.; Carol (John) Hanrahan, Waterford; and Kathleen (Paul) Noetzel of Cedarburg. She is also survived by grandchildren Erin (Sam) Bergstrom; Emily and Madeleine Craig; Erich and Nathan Boldt; Lillian Mueller; Stephen, Timothy and Matthew Gustman; Jason, Benjamin and Sarah Nowotny; Alexis Mueller; Mariah and Ethan Hanrahan; and Clara, Elena, Gabriel and Jacob Noetzel. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Annaliese Kohl, Bendorf; nephews Heinz-Peter (Claudia) Kohl, Ellerhoop; Sabina Kohl, Bullay; Rudolf (Anja) Kohl, Kottenheim; Georg (Ela) Kohl, Neuweid/Engers, and their children; all from Germany.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Heinrich and Margareta Kohl; aunt and uncle Maria and Henry Mueller; cousin F. William Mueller; sister Käthi (Eduard) Stein; and brother Heinz Kohl. Also preceding her in death are Friedhelm Kohl, Frederick Mueller Jr., Andrew Boldt, and Henri Noetzel.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014, at Holy Angels Church, followed by burial at Holy Angels Cemetery.
