Clarence C. ‘Chuck’ Guddeck, 80

Clarence C. “Chuck” Guddeck, 80, of Grafton, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, at Horizon Lawlis Family Hospice in Mequon.

Chuck was born Dec. 21, 1933, in Milwaukee to Clarence Sr. and Hilda Guddeck (nee Dey). He grew up on Booth Street in Milwaukee and graduated from Riverside High School. He was an avid musician who played accordion from the age of 7, going on the road with The Eddie Kaye Band following high school. Through the years he played with The Marty Zivko Band and The Norbie Baker Band, and later formed his own trio, The Chuck Guddeck Orchestra, which played at many weddings, anniversaries, and “polka palaces” into the late ’70s; he continued playing for fun for many years.

Chuck met his wife, Betty L. (Nee Krause), in 1952 at Marty Zivko’s Ballroom in Hartford. They were married April 23, 1955, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. He served in the Army on the East Coast for two years during which he played in the Army band and was later honorably discharged. Chuck worked at the Port of Milwaukee starting in the early 1950s, first for Hansen Seaway, which later became Meehan Seaway, which he retired from in 1995.

Chuck and Betty made their home in Grafton for 58 years, raising two children, David and Sharon. As a family, they enjoyed trips to Florida and Sunday afternoon bowling. From the mid-1960s to 2011, Chuck and Betty often vacationed at the Flamingo Hilton in Las Vegas.

Chuck was a member and past president of the Theinsville-Mequon Lions Club, which met at Stemmler’s White Coach Inn, where he later formed associations with members of the Rheinischer Verein Gruen-Weiss German Mardi Gras Society, in which he and Betty were very active members for nearly 30 years, celebrating many events with the club.  He bowled in leagues at Hadler Lanes and the Grafton Bowl for many years.

Chuck loved to entertain his friends and family with his personality and his musical talent. He will be remembered as a man who always had a smile on his face.

Chuck is survived by his wife, Betty (nee Krause). He is the loving father of David “Goody” (Colleen) and Sharon Irwin;  and loving grandpa of Beth and Sara Irwin, and Charlie and Michelle Guddeck.

A funeral service will be at Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory of Grafton on Monday, March 10, 2014, at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will be on Monday from 4 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Entombment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Mequon.
