Harold L. Schlitz of Mequon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, March 12, 2014.
He was born into this world on Dec. 26, 1936. Harold valued an honest day’s work. He retired after 30 years of service as the accounts receivable manager at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He enjoyed traveling, tinkering, gardening, watching wildlife, and the finer points of wine, cheese, books and the arts. Above all, he cherished his immediate and extended family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Diane (nee Kozicki); children, Kerri (Greg) Knapp, Tim (Renee) Schlitz, Dan (Lei) Schlitz and Julie (Rob) Stelter; and seven grandchildren, Laurel, Ben, Katherine, Matthew, Natalie, Heather and Ethan. Harold is the beloved brother-in-law of Byron Pester, Ethel Schlitz, Jim (Kay) Kozicki and Glenn (Kathy) Kozicki; and devoted cousin of LeRoy (Pat) Schlitz. He is fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews and many friends.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Doris Pester; and brother, Keith Schlitz.
A celebration of Harold’s life was held at the Schmidt & Bartelt Funeral Home in Mequon on Sunday, March 16. In lieu of flowers, memorials, if desired, may be made in Harold’s name to Goodwill Industries of Southeast Wisconsin, the Mequon Nature Preserve or the United Performing Arts Fund (UPAF) of Milwaukee.
