John F. Brackin, 69, of Brainerd, Minn., former 20-year resident of Mequon, passed away March 17, 2014, at Lakewood Health Care Center in Staples, Minn.
John was born April 19, 1944, in Wahpeton, N.D., to George and Clarice (Rollofson) Brackin. He attended school in Lidgerwood, N.D. Then in 1966, he graduated from North Dakota State University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He worked at Toro Co. as director of engineering before finishing his career at Simplicity Manufacturing as vice president of engineering in Port Washington.
He married Paulette (Tisch) in 1970 and had two daughters. He was involved in many church organizations and enjoyed playing golf and boating with family and friends. After retiring in 2004, John and Paulette moved from Mequon to East Gull Lake, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Clarice Brackin; father-in-law, Walter Tisch; and niece, Claire Bailey.
He is survived by his wife, Paulette; daughters, Jill (Jeff) Casey and Jollyne (Brian) Cuffel; six grandchildren, Haley and Isabella Casey and Brady, Katelyn, Keely and Avery Cuffel; five siblings, George (Bonnie) Brackin, Patricia (Patrick) Goolsbey, Bill Brackin, Jerry Brackin, Kathy Bailey; mother-in-law, Elaine (Lentz) Tisch; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 21, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd, Minn., with Father Anthony Wroblewski as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Alexandria, Minn. Visitation times are today from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a parish prayer service at 6:30 p.m. today at the Nelson-Doran Funeral Home, 202 Eighth Ave. Northeast, Brainerd, Minn., and Friday one hour prior to services at the church. Pallbearers are all his nieces and nephews.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. The gifts will be used toward diocesan seminary education.
