Richard K. Banse

Richard “Dick” K. Banse, 76, of Erin passed peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk surrounded by his wife and loving family.

He was born on Sept. 23, 1937, to Otto and Rose (nee Kurtz) Banse.

More than anything Dick loved and cared for his family. He met his soul mate at Krueger Bowling Alley in Menomonee Falls, and they were married during a snow storm on Nov. 14, 1959, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Menomonee Falls. They were blessed with two daughters with wonderful families to whom they were a great example of true love right to the end. Dick often referred to them as his three roses. Never was a time that his grandchildren didn’t bring a smile to his face.

Dick played Land O’Lakes baseball in Menomonee Falls which led him to Triple-A baseball as a catcher for the Cleveland Indians farm club for two years. Then he returned to Menomonee Falls to run the family business, Banse Upholstery. Dick and Carol later purchased George Your Florist and retired together in 2001.

He was an avid sports fan, watching every Packers game and cheering on Marquette and Badger basketball. Summers were spent fishing on Lake Noquebay. And rarely did Dick allow family to pass a Culver’s without stopping for custard.

Dick’s family will miss him greatly but they have no regrets — they never missed an opportunity to spend family time together. Annual family camping and fishing trips to Crivitz, holidays, homemade fish frys, and Saturday morning coffee. Our family motto ever since Dick got sick was “Worrying about tomorrow will only take away today’s joy. Take every good day you can get.” Because of that motto Dick leaves his family with memories that will keep him alive in their hearts and minds forever.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years Carol; his daughters Deb (Jim) Daley and Dawn (John) Schumacher. Precious grandchildren Katie, Brad and Jason, and his brother-in-law Orville (Waunnie) Theisen. Dick is further survived by nieces, nephews, other dear relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Ceil Banse, brother; Paul Banse, father-in-law, Tony Theisen, mother-in-law Rose Theisen and brother-in-law Roland Theisen. .

Mass of Christian burial for Richard will be held on Monday, March 24, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Blessed Teresa of Calcutta (Monches Church W302 N9583 O’Neil Road, Monches, WI, 53064, Hartland for GPS, southeast corner of highways Q, K and E). Family will greet relatives and friends on Sunday at the funeral home from 3-6:30 p.m.

“Special thanks to everyone at Kathy Hospice for the loving care received by our entire family — it was just where Dad needed to be.”

In lieu of flowers, memorials to the family to be shared with Kathy Hospice would be appreciated.
