Norbert A. Stern, 88


Norbert A. Stern of Cedarburg passed away peacefully on March 25, 2014, at Lawlis Family Hospice St. Mary’s Ozaukee Campus in Mequon at the age of 88.

Norbert was born in the town of Saukville on March 15, 1926, to William F. and Rose C. (nee Ney) Stern and married Lenore (nee Frank) on Sept. 13, 1958, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church in Cedarburg.

Norbert was the manager of Cedarburg & Sand Gravel and a retired partner of Ozaukee Excavating.  He was a master sergeant in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War.  He was a member of the Rose-Harms American Legion Post 355 in Grafton for 62 years. Also he was a longtime active member and usher at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, a forest conservationist manager in Vernon County and an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Lenore of Cedarburg; children, Laurie (Dr. Howard) Bailey of Verona, Judy (Fred) Munger of Yuma, Ariz., Gary (Nancy) Stern of Chicago, Carolyn (Jim) Suehring of New Castle, Colo., Robert (Rene) Stern of Austin, Texas and Mary (Ken) Stern-Wick of Brookfield; grandchildren, Sarah Munger of Yuma, Maia Bailey of Verona, Evan Bailey of Verona, Peter Stern of Chicago, Jaidyn Munger of Yuma, Jeremy Suehring of New Castle, Sophie Stern of Chicago and Conrad Stern of Chicago; and one sister, Marian Stadler of  Belgium. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Shomperlen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 31, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church, 1375 Covered Bridge Road, Cedarburg.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 30, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Mueller Funeral Home & Crematory, W63 N527 Hanover Ave., Cedarburg, and at the church Monday from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.  Memorials of your choice appreciated.
