Orrin A. Vreim, 95

Orrin A. Vreim, age 95, of West Bend, passed away on March 5, 2015, at Cedar Bay West. He was born on Jan. 22, 1920, in Wilmot, South Dakota, to Albert and Emma (nee Severson) Vreim.

Orrin was raised on a farm 6 1/2 miles south west of Wilmot with his brother Delmar and sister Marian. Orrin attended a rural grade school in Springdale Township and graduated from Wilmot High School in 1938. He met Darlene Bachmann of Summit, South Dakota and they married on Oct. 10, 1951, in Waubay, South Dakota.

Orrin worked for a well driller for 2 1/2 years after graduation. He worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corp. located in Glendale, California, before being drafted into the Army in April of 1945. He took infantry training, was transferred into an Engineer Regiment as a personnel company clerk and became a Staff Sergeant. The remainder of time was spent in an army band as a sousaphone player and taking care of the personnel papers. He was discharged with a Tech Sergeant rating in October 1946. Orrin was a farmer until October 1958 when the family moved to West Bend. He worked in the hospital laundry until 1967 when he went to the Gehl Farm Manufacturing factory as a welder and retired in January 1982. Darlene and Orrin spent six winters in Apache Junction, Arizona, and after retirement they lived in Okauchee for two years then in Monona for an additional two years. In June of 1996, they bought a mobile home in Montello. In January 1998 the mobile home was sold and a new one was purchased in Waupun. Eventually Orrin and Darlene settled in the West Bend area.

Orrin is survived by his nine children James (Beth), Cheryl, Mary (Dennis) Jackson, Michael, Julie (Ralph) Millard, David and Diane (twins), Robert and Lisa (John) Voge; 11 grandchildren Brian, Eric, Scott, Katie (Ben), Chad, Brenda (Ben), Tyler, Kelly, Missy and Joshua; 10 great-grandchildren Shyleen, Emma, Mason, Malachi, Barrett, Quin, Mackenzie, Jordan, Ana and Wade. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Darlene and his parents.

A memorial service will be held at Phillip Funeral Home, (1420 W. Paradise Drive, West Bend) on Saturday, March 14, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jerry Brittain of Holy Angels Catholic Church officiating. Visitation will be held at the Phillip Funeral Home from 12-1:45 p.m. until the time of the service.
