Dennis Schrank, 85
Nov. 23, 1929 -- March 22, 2015
Dennis Schrank, age 85, formerly of Cedarburg, passed away on March 22, 2015, at the Portage County Health Care Center.
Dennis was born Nov. 23, 1929, in Lomira, the son of Arthur and Rachel (Borth) Schrank.
He attended grades one through eight in a one-room schoolhouse in Dancy. After graduating from Mosinee High School, he served in the United States Army. After his honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (formerly known as Stevens Point Teachers College), where he met the love of his life, Jean Sarbacher. They married in 1955.
Dennis was hired by the Mequon-Thiensville School District, where he taught seventh grade science, math and outdoor education. Dennis’ love for the outdoors and his strong interest in environmental education led him to develop an Outdoor Education Program. After 35 years of dedicated teaching, Dennis retired in 1989. His wife, Jean, taught for 40 years.
It was Dennis and Jean’s dream to provide a Scholarship Fund for Mequon School District. The “Dennis and Jean Scholarship Fund” was established in 2008 for students who planned to teach in elementary grades.
Dennis will be remembered as a kind, generous friend, “jokester” and outstanding hunter and fisherman.
Dennis is survived by two brothers, Jim (Lu), Stevens Point and David, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Rachel Schrank, his wife, Jean and sister-in-law, Madeline Schrank.
The family would like to thank all of the personnel at Portage County Health Care Center, who took such very good care of him for the last two and a half years that he spent there.
Burial will be at Silver Lake Cemetery, Portage, where Dennis will be laid to rest with his wife, Jean.
Dennis requested that there be no funeral service.
