Agnes Catherine Apel nee CullenAgnes Catherine “Midge” (nee Cullen) Apel, of Wauwatosa and Big Cedar Lake, passed away peacefully March 28, 2015, at the age of 88. She was born June 17, 1926, in New Diggings, the youngest child of Joseph and Elizabeth (nee Coulthard) Cullen. As a young child, her family moved to Milwaukee, where she attended Gesu School and graduated from West Division High School on her 17th birthday in 1943. Midge married Robert “Bob” Apel on Aug. 2, 1947, after he returned from WWII. They enjoyed raising their children, spending time at Big Cedar Lake, visiting with family and friends, vacationing in Florida and enjoying their grandsons and great-grandsons. Midge greatly enjoyed working at the Milwaukee Antique Center for many years, and also sold real estate with Bob.

She was a longtime, active member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and School. Midge was a loving wife and mother, involved in Scouting and other school activities.

Midge is survived by her children, Peggy (Tom) Bruce of West Bend and Jeffrey (Dianne) Apel of West Milwaukee; her five treasured grandsons, Chris (Lacey) Bruce of Markesan, Chad (Amber) Bruce of Wauwatosa, Robert (Brooke) Bruce of Ripon, Noah Robert Apel and Nicholas “Cole” Jeffrey Apel, both of West Milwaukee; and her cherished great-grandsons Brayden, Lucas and Cormac Bruce. She is also survived by many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Apel; her sisters, Gladys, Violet, Leona, Leola, Elizabeth, Ethel and Alta Mae; and her brothers, Little Joe and Francis.

Visitation is Thursday, April 2, 2015, from 2-4 p.m. at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 10025 W. North Ave., Wauwatosa. Funeral service will follow at 4 p.m. at the church. The Rev. Wayne Schroeder will officiate. Committal service Friday, April 3, at 11 a.m. at Washington County Memorial Park Cemetery, 3358 Paradise Drive, West Bend. Robert Burger will serve as officiant for the committal.
