Joyce was born in Escanaba, Michigan, on Nov. 14, 1930, to Emil and Tillie Erickson. In 1951, Joyce graduated from the Columbia School of Nursing in Milwaukee. On April 24, 1953, Joyce married Lorin Griffith and they celebrated their 61st anniversary this spring. Together they raised their children, ran a business and, in later years, traveled around the world.

Joyce was a devoted and loving wife, mother, mother- in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She loved completely and had the unique ability to make you feel that you were exactly whom she needed to see even in a crowded room. She also had a great sense of style in the clothes she wore, the houses she turned into homes and the beautiful tables set for gatherings of friends and family.

Joyce lived in West Bend for more than 40 years. She was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and served on the West Bend Columns Scholarship Foundation. For the past 15 years she lived in Hobe Sound, Florida. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Lost Lake Women’s Club. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Lorin C. Griffith; children, Judy (Randy) Averill, Scott (Linda) Griffith, Vicki (Shawn) Keegan, Mark (Chris) Griffith and Jeffrey Griffith; nine grandchildren, Brian (Allison), Abby (Bernie), Amanda, Ryan (fiancée Maria), Clay, Kelsey, Andrew, Madeline and Grace; and four great-grandchildren, Leah, Ronan, Rosalind and Elowen. Joyce is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Elaine (Ralph) Nowicki and Marilyn Griffith and many nieces and nephews in the extended Long/Griffith/ Erickson/Williamson/Van Effen families.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, two sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law and a very special niece, Barbara Johnson.

In memory of Joyce, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Easter Seals Wisconsin Respite Camp so that other children with disabilities may enjoy camp as much as her granddaughter Grace.
