John Rajala, 73
John Rajala, age 73, Gladstone, Michigan, formerly of West Bend, passed away Wednesday morning May 6, 2015, at the Marquette General Hospital in Marquette, Michigan, following a lengthy illness.
John was united in marriage to Patricia Rae Micheau on Nov. 24, 1962, in Gladstone, Michigan. Patricia preceded John in death on Oct. 25, 2013. John faithfully served in the United States Navy from 1960-69. John and Pat resided in many locations while he was stationed in the U.S. Navy. Due to the love of his family, he decided it was best to not re-enlist and returned to the Upper Peninsula to be close to family. John was employed and retired from Soo Line Railroad and Canadian Pacific Railway. John loved hunting, fishing, trapping, cooking for Pat after retirement and spending time at camp. He frequently talked about the times he spent at camp with family and especially enjoyed “Camp Day” which will never be the same without him.
John is survived by his children, Sheri (David) Timm of Green Bay, Kathy (Dean) Groleau of West Bend, Bob (Tammy) Rajala of Leesburg, Georgia and Joe Rajala of Willernie, Minnesota; his sister, Betty Stemick of Gladstone, Michigan; his brother, Duane (Allie) Rajala of Gladstone, Michigan; 11 grandchildren, Aymee, Ben, Mallory, Chelsea, Abbee, Brittany, Cody, Zachary, Nick, Nicole and Aaron; brother-in-law, Gary (Vickie) Micheau of Gladstone, Michigan; sisters-in-law, Barbara (Dr. Hal) Thinglum of Midlothian, Virginia and Diane Micheau of Gladstone, Michigan; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Pat; two infant brothers; brother-in-law, John Stemick; and mother- and father-in-law, Robert and Anne Micheau. John was also preceded in death by his beloved dog, Sam.
John’s family will receive friends on Monday from 5-6:15 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone, Michigan. Gladstone American Legion Post 71 military rites will follow at 6:15 p.m., followed by parish prayers. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m. at the All Saints Catholic Church with the Rev. Jamie Ziminski officiating. Luncheon will follow in the All Saints Church Parish Hall. Burial will be in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone, Michigan. Memorial contributions in memory of John may be directed to the Wounded Warrior Project. Envelopes will be available at the Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County, Michigan.
