Dennis L. Laubenstein, age 65, of Bear Creek, passed away Friday, May 22, 2015, at his home surrounded by loved ones. Dennis Lee Laubenstein was born on March 17, 1950, in Port Washington, to Elmer and Myrtle (Groth) Laubenstein. He was raised in the Newburg area and after high school lived for some time in the Random Lake vicinity.
Dennis was employed as a custodian with the Random Lake School District for many years. He was united in marriage on April 21, 2001, to Janice C. Munkholm in Oshkosh. After marriage they moved north and settled in Bear Creek. The couple met back in 1995 at a Civil War Reenactment in Boscobel. Dennis and his Morgan Quarter Horse, Rocky, were part of the 1st Alabama Calvary Unit when they swept Janice off her feet.
He was always an outdoorsman and enjoyed prospecting for gold and discovering all sorts of treasures with his metal detector. Dennis is a former member of the Greenbush chapter of the Gold Prospectors Association of America and was active as their raffle coordinator chairman from 2004-07. He was a member of the Wausau Chapter of GPAA and served as vice president from 2007-14. Dennis also loved sharing his interest of panning for gold with various youth groups. Survivors include his dear wife, Janice, other family members and special friends. He is preceded in death by his parents.
A private family memorial service was held on Friday, May 29, at the Beil-Didier Funeral Home in Clintonville. A celebration of Dennis’ life will also be held on the Gold Prospectors Association camping weekend of Oct. 9-11 in the town of Parrish, Langlade County.
