Dr. Paul Andrew Guse, 67

Dr. Paul Andrew GuseDr. Paul Andrew Guse, 67, passed away unexpectedly on May 28, 2015.

He was born in Cedarburg, the son of the late Elmer Theodore Guse and the late Irene Olga Zeunert Guse. He was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Feil.

Paul is survived by the love of his life and wife of 42 years, Eileen McMahon Guse; beloved daughters, Sharon Guse Roland and husband, Jason, Allison Eileen Guse and Jennifer Irene Guse; grandson, Tyler Jason Roland; sister, Ellene Deets; brother, Robert Guse and wife, Marcia; and many nieces and nephews.

Paul was a loving brother, husband and father.

Family was a priority and he never missed a special event usually with fireworks in tow. He had a zest for life and shared it with others through laughter with his “Friday Funny” emails. Paul was always the first to lend a hand and could fix almost anything.

Like his father, Paul had a passion for gardening and created many beautiful sanctuaries. He loved to travel and was always up for the next adventure, especially if it involved the Green Bay Packers, LSU Tigers or Duke Blue Devils. Paul earned his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University and completed his postdoctoral studies at the University of Miami. He then began a long successful career in pharmacology, first, as a professor of pharmacy at North Dakota State University, and then as a cardiology research professor at Duke University, where he earned two medical patents. He later was a clinical research scientist with pharmaceutical companies across the nation.

Paul was taken too soon, but much like the lighthouses he loved, he continues to shine in the hearts of everyone he touched. A celebration of Paul’s life was held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2015, at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham, N.C. The family received friends prior, from 2 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. at Clements Funeral Home. A reception followed at The Clements Gathering Room.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org, 225 N. Michigan Ave., FL 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
