Terry Backhaus, of Sulphur, Louisiana, died on May 26, 2015, at a local hospital surrounded by his loving family.
Terry is survived by his wife, Diana, and three children, Annie, Elizabeth and Brian (wife Shiva). Terry is also survived by his two brothers, Kim Backhaus (wife Cindy) and Kurt Backhaus (wife Sandy).
Terry was born in Kewaskum to Lloyd and Carmen Backhaus, who preceded him in death. Terry received a chemical engineering degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison and later a master’s degree in chemical engineering from McNeese State University. After receiving his degree, Terry worked at Olin Chemical for 23 years before becoming a certified financial planner and owner of the Backhaus Financial Group. Terry was very active in the community and served on several boards, including West Cal-Cam Hospital Foundation Board (2007–present), Beauregard Electric Co-Op Board (2004–present), Board of Ethics for the State of Louisiana (appointed by Gov. Bobby Jindal in 2011) and Crime Stoppers Board (2005–present). Terry was a past member of the Sulphur Rotary Club, Republican Roundtable and League of Women Voters. Terry was devoted to his family and his community and will be greatly missed.
A memorial service for Terry was held at Henning Memorial United Methodist Church in Sulphur, Louisiana, on Saturday, May 30, 2015.
