Dick served his country in the United States Air Force, as a crew chief member on the 135 Tanker while serving in Vietnam.

After four years of faithful service to the Air Force, Dick was honorably discharged and returned to Mequon. Dick was a member of the American Legion Post 457 in Mequon.

Dick was employed at Power Products as a forklift driver, and dedicated 47 years to his company. He retired from Power Products, which is now Tecumseh, in 2008.

Dick had a great love for automobiles. In his earlier years, Dick and his brother, Chuck, could be found racing cars at the Union Grove races or helping many of the drivers who drove stock car at the Cedarburg stock races. In his down time, Dick would still be found tinkering with cars, engines or other motors on the family farm in Mequon.

Dick is survived by his brother, Charles Hoppe, one niece and three nephews. He is further survived by great nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Dick was preceded in death by his parents and sister-inlaw, Betty Hoppe.
