William R. Frederick, 71
March 9, 1944 -- July 12, 2015
William R. Frederick of Hartford passed away Sunday, July 12, at the age of 71. He was born March 9, 1944, in Shamokin, Pennsylvania, the son of William C. and Rita (nee Shaw) Frederick. Bill was a wrestler from the time he was 9 years old, through college. At Superior State College of Wisconsin he met his wife of 47 years, Diane “Deon” Cocklin. They moved to Hartford in 1968 and he began teaching at Central Middle School, where he taught for 32 years. He was named “Teacher of the Year” in 1999, an honor presented by the Hartford Jt. 1 School District. Bill started a middle school wrestling program; this program was a feeder into the high school wrestling program. In retirement, Bill enjoyed woodworking and started a handyman business. He fulfilled his passion for golfing by working at Kettle Hills Golf Course. He was a longtime member of St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church and will be deeply missed.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Diane “Deon,” and his loving daughter Christine (Lewis) Wemyss of California. He is also survived by his father, William C. of Pennsylvania, and his brother, Tom (Ginny) Frederick of Pennsylvania. Also surviving are other relatives and many friends.
The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, July 17, from 3-5 p.m. at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church (670 E. Monroe Ave., Hartford). A memorial service will follow at church at 5 p.m. The Revs. Anna Doherty and Michael Tess will officiate. Private interment. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church would be appreciated.
