Edward W. Hurula
Edward W. Hurula, born Oct. 2, 1934, found peace and was reunited with his beloved Alice on Aug. 5, 2015. A long-time resident of Hartford, he was a parish trustee at St. Kilian Church and a commissioner with the Hartford Police and Fire Commission at the time of his passing.
The fifth of 10 children born to William and Esther (Nortunen) Hurula in northern Wisconsin, he had seven brothers and two sisters. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and was stationed near Washington, D.C. where he met Alice Perdeus. Married in 1956, they lived in Wisconsin for all of their 57 years together. Alice died in September 2013.
Edward is survived by five fabulous (his word) children, Barbara, Judy (Matt), Mike (Donna), Janet (Danny) and Steve (Silia); nine loving grandchildren, Ben (Katie), Britta, Bronson, Danielle, Lauren, Vincent, Miriam, Marie and Elena; and precious great-grandsons, James, Alex and Marcus. He is also survived by siblings Marie (Fred) Martin, Jack (Ada), Marty (Jim) Rhoades and Jim Hurula, along with sisters- in-law Evelyn, Jane, Dorothy and Honey Perdeus. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Henry, Ray, Ken, Bill and John. He also leaves behind many caring relatives and close friends.
His career was in manufacturing management and he worked at Ladish, Slinger Manufacturing and with national and international clients in the U.S., Canada and Mexico. He won many speaking trophies during his time with Toastmasters International. He served his church as lector, Eucharistic minister and as a trustee. He and Alice also enjoyed the time spent as members of Hartford Senior Friends. Our gratitude to the doctors and staff at Aurora clinic and hospital, Aurora Hospice and The Kathy Hospice for their exemplary care. The family also wishes to thank special neighbors Pam and Dave for their loving care and help this past year.
Edward was a man of faith and wisdom and love. He will be remembered as someone who only wanted the best for his family, his church and his city.
